However, the letter also urges the State Water Board to strengthen the proposed standards, expressing concern that the best available science strongly indicates that the Board’s current proposal will not adequately protect fish and wildlife, water quality, and recreational benefits in the estuary, lower San Joaquin River, and San Joaquin tributaries. Friends of the San Francisco Estuary has worked hard to bring this issue to the attention of elected officials in Marin County and throughout the Bay Area. Our leaders need to know that a healthy Bay requires fresh water, and that means keeping enough water flowing in the rivers that reach the Delta and then the Bay.
