Who We areFriends of the San Francisco Estuary has a thirty-year history of protecting, restoring, and enhancing our Bay and Delta through education, advocacy, outreach, and collaboration.
We focus on developing and amplifying voices for a thriving future of the entire San Francisco Estuary, from the mighty Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers to the Golden Gate and beyond. We seek to educate and inspire anyone who visits or lives in the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to support the health and resilience of this complex, interdependent system for wildlife and people. |
Friends of the San Francisco Estuary partners with the San Francisco Estuary Partnership to implement priority actions identified in the Estuary Blueprint, particularly work with a focus on future generations of leaders in estuarine restoration and protection efforts throughout the region. Although Friends does not currently have any staff members, the San Francisco Estuary Partnership provides limited staffing support for Friends.
our impact

We have made the most impact in educating and mobilizing residents–-from youth to elected officials-–on topics pertinent to estuarine health and resilience, resulting in improvements to creeks and watersheds and influencing key regulatory documents that manage the San Francisco Estuary ecosystem.

why now?
Friends of the San Francisco Estuary is at a pivotal moment in the organization’s history. Currently, in alignment with our commitment to education, advocacy, and collaboration, we are supporting innovative programs through the San Francisco Estuary Partnership to ensure that marginalized voices are heard and young people are empowered to champion a healthy San Francisco Estuary. Founding board members are ready to shift into advisory capacities to allow new voices to step into leadership positions and grow these and other initiatives by the Estuary Partnership. This stage marks an exciting opportunity for growth for a slate of passionate new board members.

Now is the time to mobilize to secure the health of the Estuary and its surrounding communities for generations to come! We hope you will play an important part in helping us define the work of our organization as we move forward.
